Tramway estate to bridal suburb
Nedlands started with the 1907 subdivision of the Nedlands Tramway Estate. After the First World War, returned servicemen and their brides settled here, giving it the nickname the bridal suburb, and in the late 1920s and 1930s Spanish Mission and Mediterranean styles came into fashion.
A Nedlands home from the 1920s is now around a century old. Council guidance on tree roots and sewer pipes says damage typically starts in old-style earthenware clay, at faulty joints, cracks and where the ground has moved, and recommends PVC for any section that gets replaced. A camera inspection shows you which sections of your line are which.
