Local drains
Federation homes on the river
By around 1903 almost the whole suburb had been subdivided, and the Town of Claremont's own history says Federation was the most popular new housing style, in timber or brick, and still dominates the streets today. The character most people know was well established by the Second World War.
A house that old may have had its drains altered more than once, so a single property can have more than one kind of pipe underground. Council guidance on root damage notes it typically occurs in old-style earthenware clay pipe, at faulty joints and cracks. A camera run tells you what yours is made of.
