Local drains
Built from the 1990s on
Clarkson stayed largely undeveloped until the early 1990s. Building around the high school began in 1995, the suburb grew through the 2000s, and the Somerly estate around the station was finished in 2008, with 1,800 lots over 162 hectares. Clarkson station opened on the northern line in October 2004.
Younger houses mean younger drains, and the blockages follow a different pattern from the older northern suburbs. Here it is less often roots and more often what goes down the sink: fat, oil, food scraps and wipes.
Our job notes from August 2024 to September 2026 cover 88 Clarkson jobs. More than a third mention a kitchen line and more than one in seven mention grease, while fewer than one in ten mention tree roots.
In September 2026 we were called to a Clarkson home where both kitchen sink lines had blocked. We cleared the upstairs line with a flexible shaft and jetted the downstairs line from the gully, then ran the camera through to check both were draining normally.
