Road to the water
Kallaroo is one of the four Whitfords suburbs created after the State Government rezoned a large stretch of coastal land in 1969. The name was chosen in 1970 and is an Aboriginal word meaning road to the water, and many of the streets are named after shipwrecks, the Batavia among them.
The suburb grew in two waves. Springfield Primary opened in 1972 with four demountable classrooms, so the older streets date from the early 1970s. The land west of Dampier Avenue followed in the mid to late 1980s as the Northshore estate. Two build eras mean two generations of pipe, and the camera tells you which one you have.
We've booked 89 Kallaroo jobs between August 2024 and September 2026. About half of the job notes mention jetting, and about a third each mention the sewer line, roots and relining. Around one in six mention a collapsed pipe, and a few name clay pipe outright.
In June 2026 the inspection shaft for a Kallaroo mainline blockage turned out to be under the cubby house in the back corner of the yard. We jetted downstream from it and cleared roots that had grown in where newer PVC pipe joins the original earthenware. Flow was back, and we recommended relining that joint as the permanent fix.
