Built in stages, 1970s to 1987
Carine stayed mostly farmland and market gardens until the 1960s. The part south of today's Reid Highway went up in the early 1970s, the rest followed in stages from 1975, and the last two stages, west of Osmaston Road and the Lake Carine Gardens estate, were finished in 1987. Duplexes have become more common since, as older lots are redeveloped.
That staged build means pipe age changes from street to street. Council guidance on tree roots says the damage typically starts at faulty joints and cracks, especially in old-style earthenware clay, and recommends PVC wherever a section is replaced. Our camera shows which kind of pipe you have and where it is failing.
We've booked 38 Carine jobs between August 2024 and September 2026. Close to half of the job notes mention the sewer line, about two in five mention a CCTV inspection or jetting, and about a quarter mention roots. Around one in five mention relining, and a handful mention a collapsed or broken pipe.
In January 2026 we jetted and camera-inspected a Carine toilet line that kept blocking. The camera found a junction under the pavers, only 0.4 metres down, that had pulled apart and was letting roots in, with more roots coming through the pan collar at the toilet. We cleared the line and assessed the damage before recommending a repair.
