Named for a blue lily
Dianella takes its name from Dianella revoluta, a small blue lily that grew here before the houses. The sandy soil of the Banksia sandplain was poor for farming, so even after the 1880s subdivision little was built, and by 1919 the only development ran along Walter Road. North Inglewood, East Yokine, Morley Park and Bedford Park were merged into Dianella in 1958.
House building began in the 1960s, spreading north from Walter Road and Grand Promenade. St Andrews, Montclair Rise and the Dress Circle Estate came last, in the early 2000s, so Dianella drains range from about sixty years old to around twenty.
Our job notes from August 2024 to September 2026 cover 85 Dianella jobs. More than three in ten mention the sewer line, and more than one in five each mention roots, relining and the kitchen. Showers and toilets each come up in about one in five.
In March 2026 a whole Dianella house blocked at once. We jetted from the inspection shaft and removed the tree roots behind it, and the camera then found a cracked joint about two metres further down with roots still coming through. Sealing that joint needs a reline.
