Local drains
Gazetted in 1971, plumbed back then
The Shire of Wanneroo and the R&I Bank asked the State Government to gazette a suburb here, and Hillarys was created in 1971. A house from those first years may still run its original drains, and over fifty-odd years joints shift and roots have time to find them.
Councils that study root damage say it most often starts at faulty joints and cracks in old-style earthenware clay pipe, and that PVC is the better material when a section gets replaced. When our camera finds a line like that, relining puts a new jointless pipe inside the old one without digging a trench.
