Local drains
First homes on Craigie Drive
Beldon was approved as a suburb name on 25 August 1975, after a proposal to call it Albert Grove was dropped. House and land packages were first advertised in 1977, the first show-houses went up along Craigie Drive, and until 1979 locals called the area Mullaloo-Beldon or Ocean Reef-Beldon. The original shopping centre opened in December 1977.
A drain laid in 1977 is close to fifty years old. Water Corporation warns that suburbs over 20 years old are less likely to have PVC wastewater pipes, and those older lines are the ones roots and cracks find first.
We've cleared dozens of Beldon drains in the past two years, and the cause we see most often is tree roots getting in at the inspection shaft and its joints. Kitchen grease and corroded galvanised basin pipes come up too.
In September 2026 we cleared a blocked main sewer line in Beldon. We jetted from the inspection shaft and ran the camera through: tree roots had grown into the main line downstream of the shaft, and there was joint damage about 3 metres further on, just before the connection to the sewer main.
