Local drains
A Whitfords suburb from 1970
Craigie was chosen as a suburb name in 1970, after an early councillor of the City of Wanneroo. It's one of four Whitfords suburbs created after the State Government rezoned a large stretch of coastal land for housing in 1969, and Craigie Senior High School opened here in 1976.
That puts many Craigie house drains at around fifty years old. Water Corporation warns that suburbs over 20 years old are less likely to have PVC wastewater pipes, and that a hairline fracture is all a root needs to get in.
Our job notes from August 2024 to September 2026 cover 125 Craigie jobs. More than a quarter of them mention tree roots, about one in five mention relining, and more than one in ten mention a collapsed or broken pipe.
In August 2026 we were called to a Craigie home where the shower and basin were backing up while every other fixture drained fine. The drain gully was partly blocked. We jetted it clear, then ran the camera downstream and found tree roots past the gully, which were the real cause.
