Local drains
A 1960s building boom
Morley started as farmland. The name was adopted when the Morley Park Estate was subdivided after the First World War, and it probably honours Charles William Morley, who farmed here in the 1860s and 1870s. Large-scale house building came in the 1960s, under town planning schemes drawn up by Margaret Feilman.
Tonkin Highway was built through the suburb in 1984, and the Galleria opened in 1994, after the Boans store burnt down in 1986. So Morley has sixty-year-old house drains a short walk from one of Perth's larger shopping centres.
Our job notes from August 2024 to September 2026 cover 99 Morley jobs. More than three in ten mention the sewer line and more than a quarter mention a toilet. One in five mention the kitchen, and more than one in seven mention grease.
In June 2026 a Morley bath and shower drain blocked. The camera found a toy ball lodged in the line: it had gone through the shower trap and caught on corrosion inside the old galvanised pipe under the slab. We cut the concrete to reach the pipe and milled it to clear both the corrosion and the ball.
